MANY THANKS TO OUR 2018 AND 2019 SPONSORS!

NEW MEXICO ASSOCIATION FOR BILINGUAL EDUCATION

A special thanks to the New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education, whose financial support of the National Spanish Spelling Bee helped to ensure that this event would be successful during the early years as we strived to make this into a national event.  Please do what you can to support this outstanding organization and its Board of Directors as they continue

to provide professional development opportunities to educators in New Mexico.  This organization is also the host and primary funder of the NMABE State Spanish Spelling Bee, New Mexico’s official Spanish spelling bee.  This event is the first and oldest ongoing state Spanish spelling bee in the nation.  The first event

was held in 1994 and has been held annually since that time.

SANTILLANA, USA

From the beginning, Santillana, USA has been a sponsor of the National Spanish Spelling Bee.  Their financial support and donation of dictionaries and books has enabled us to provide a check to the first, second and third place winners each year.  They have been purchased by Vista Higher Learning and while they have not committed to continue as sponsors in 2019 we want to thank them for their many years of support.

DUAL LANGUAGE EDUCATION OF NEW MEXICO

Dual Language Education of New Mexico (DLeNM) is a grass-roots educational non-profit organization serving the professional and informational needs of New Mexican communities who wish to develop, refine and/or implement dual language education programs.

One of their flagship events is La Cosecha, the largest dual language conference in the country with almost 2,700 in attendance in 2017.  La Cosecha brings together educators, students, parents, researchers, and supporters of dual language education.  Organized by teachers, for teachers, La Cosecha 2018 will take place in Santa Fe, New Mexico and will once again provide an opportunity to share instructional best practices, as well as honor and celebrate our families, communities and those who have gone before us, our ancestors.

LANGUAGE MAGAZINE

The other new kid on the block is Language Magazine.  For over 18 years, Language Magazine has covered language related news while providing resources for teachers, students, and administrators. As world language education and English-language learner methodologies collide, Language Magazine explores these intersections, focusing on dual language and bilingual education programs and the state of literacy in the U.S. and abroad.

Many thanks to Mr. Daniel Ward, publisher and editor of Language Magazine for their support.

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT SERVICES/FAMILY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The Family Leadership Institute (FLI) is a multifaceted educational curriculum focused on providing families with the knowledge, tools and inspiration to help their children succeed in school and in life.

Originally designed as a culture-specific program for parents of first- and second-generation children, the FLI program has evolved into a curriculum that helps families of diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds grow as individuals, parents and leaders.

The FLI was created by Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, a renowned, charismatic, passionate and influential speaker with a mission to empower the next generation of leaders. Throughout her career, Consuelo has shared her personal knowledge on becoming an effective leader in today’s global marketplace with hundreds of schools, colleges, universities, corporations, and government institutions both in the U.S. and abroad.

Born and raised along the border in a small barrio in Laredo, Texas, Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch is all too familiar with the challenges of poverty, discrimination and illiteracy. Although she grew up without material wealth, Consuelo was taught by her immigrant parents that she was rich in culture, tradition, values and faith.

Consuelo has been a true friend and mentor of the National Spanish Spelling Bee founder, David Briseño.  It was her leadership and inspiration that provided Briseño with the courage to reach out and begin organizing the national bee.
